I’m so pleased to see the Gutenberg team has started to develop a Form block for WordPress core.
Let’s look before we leap #
It’s worthwhile to consider what the overall Form Block could & should be before writing any further code for the Form Block.
We can first look at:
- what’s been done so far in the Form Block
- what’s commonly been done in the past in existing form plugins
- how some form plugins have recently tackled the opportunities & changes brought via the Block Editor.
We should then look at:
- what WordPress users currently expect in forms
- how we can help overcome some of the problems WordPress users complain about with existing form plugins
- what could really help WordPress users (that the don’t expect) by creating a Form API UI that supports creating & editing forms directly within the Block Editor.
