Widespread support for bringing forms to WordPress core #
Comments on this Pull Request indicate there is support for adding forms as an experiment within the Gutenberg plugin.

There also appears to be widespread support for eventually adding the form block within WordPress core.

Users who’ve only ever used the Block Editor, will likely expect a WordPress Form to be just another block.

Austin Ballard, owner of Presstwood Design, shared his perspective as a seasoned web designer who has navigated the complexities of WordPress form plugins:
“After 15 years building WordPress sites, I’ve encountered persistent challenges with form plugins. The ecosystem requires mastering multiple different form plugins, each with their own approach to functionality, interface design, and styling options. This fragmentation creates unnecessary complexity when developing sites, both for myself and for the clients I’m working with.
While I now have a preferred forms solution, it remains a pain point – especially when inheriting sites built by other people. For new WordPress users, this inconsistency creates an unnecessary hurdle.
I love working with WordPress because of the flexibility, community and ecosystem, but I recognise that many of the platforms people are considering now like Webflow, Squarespace, and Wix all include native form builders, which could potentially make WordPress less appealing to beginners.
A simple built-in form solution in WordPress core would:
- Serve the majority of users with basic form needs
- Provide a consistent experience across sites
- Reduce reliance on third-party plugins
- Create an extendable foundation for more complex requirements
Adding native form block based functionality would streamline development and keep WordPress competitive, benefiting both developers and clients.”
